august 31st - gemma eats LBI

We woke up to a fall morning at the shore with some light winds and slightly heavier rain. We have an ocean view from our room so we had an up close picture of exactly what we would not be doing today. Daddy has a long list of good eats, so Gemma accepted the challenge. Breakfast was at Sandbox Cafe in Surf City, and their waffles were legit. Gemma had those, with a side of eggs and a side of bacon and a side of strawberries.

Since the weather was crap, we drove all the way to the south end of the island and walked the preserved area a bit. Alex and Gemma ran around and Lucy ate a few fists full of sand. We did get some great pictures of all of them in the dunes. Back to bay village for a round of mini golf and meal number two for Gemma. Daddy killed it in mini golf...even with the one-armed baby toting handicap. Lunch was at Bay Village Pizza and the slices were Gemma approved.

All the kids wanted to do was go back to the arcade (aka Arcave to Gemma). We finally “caved” and took them for a few more games and to cash in their points for goodies. On the way back to Ship Bottom we stopped at “Oh Fudge” (lucille’s candy shop). We must have passed it about 15 times by now so it was somewhat built up in our heads as a magical land. Family verdict...fudge sucks...didn’t stop GemGem. When we got back to our hotel, we put on our scarves and ski masks and took the kids for a run on the beach. They didn’t care one bit about the weather.

We were able to walk to dinner at The Arlington. Another great spot with a really good menu...most importantly, a great cocktail list and great service. Gemma finished up her culinary tour of the island with a vanilla bean bread pudding. She did not share.
