Mommy created some magic with the pumpkin carving this year. Alex had a pretty standard cut, but Gemma had something more interesting in mind. Lucy’s first pumpkin was a success and she only tried to eat 90% of it.
october 27th - you lied!
Daddy made some spooky halloween pancakes for breakfast and they were a big hit. What was not a hit was when we tricked the kids that we had to go to the shopping center to run an errand...and they got flu shots. Gemma didn’t flinch...Alex sobbed. Mommy and Daddy went straight over to Rite Aid for our shots, so our pain made them feel better. Mommy and Daddy had an adult night out with the burger crew. Grandmom Burger hung out with the kids and made some cookies.
october 26th - halloween begins
The festivities kicked off today with Gemma’s school parade and her break out moment of her flower pot costume. Lucy is now the 3rd iteration of the burger costume and it keeps getting better. After the parade, we got to hit the Palmer Square celebration and have dinner at the grill. Gemma wore her costume very proudly into the restaurant and every waitress was super impressed and loving on her costume.
We also won the halloween pumpkin auction at Gemma’s school. Our pumpkin has a live fish, which Gemma wanted to name “fish.” Seemed impersonal, so we now have a fish named David.
october 25th - morning jolt
Daddy school bus always stops for coffee and treats. Today we hit Lilipies for some tasty pastries and really nice coffee. Lucy was along for the ride (not pictured). Lucy got into the french impressionists today. Made a real sweet piece.
october 24th - hiiiiiii
Lucy’s first word “da-da”...second word mastered. It sounds mor like “Haaaa” the. “Hiiiii” but it comes with a wave. You get the point.
october 23rd - where’s the D?
Mommy had to go to Philly today for meetings so she left a little morning surprise for everyone to wake up to...Community Park fundraiser night at Nomad. Guess where we had dinner.
october 22nd - jack frost in october
It is officially freezing and it takes a lot of energy in the morning to convince Alex and Gemma that jackets are required. New stylish hats have helped the case, but it may take frostbite and a sacrificial limb before they believe us. Lucy just gets in her shelter and smiles. Simple.
october 21st - futbol sunday
Costume construction is complete and we have the most beautiful flower pot in the world. Daddy, Alex, Gemma, and Grandpa spent the day together at the Philadelphia Union soccer game. It was a special birthday treat for Grandpa and the kids were on their best behavior. Pretty uneventful game (they lost), but a really nice day with some sport and sunshine...and we got to miss the embarrassing Eagles loss today againt Carolina.
october 20th - big saturday
Lucy had a blast at Gemma’s gymnastics this morning, standing up at the railing and waving to everyone. Alex scored eight goals today, brining his season tally up to 32. After soccer, Daddy took Alex to Russ Ayres hot dogs for lunch. It was Daddy’s favorite place as a kid...he ordered seconds. Mommy and Gemma got Halloween costume-making underway.
This evening, Alex had a birthday party to go to, so Daddy took the girls out for dinner. Gemma’s pick...sushi.
october 19th - philly in princeton
Our old neighbors from Philly, Chip & Mickey (and Sandy), came over tonight for dinner. It was really great to see all of them and catch up over drinks and dinner. Alex and Gemma were very proud...giving them a tour and showing off their rooms.
october 18th - liquid lunch
Open afternoon with no meetings turned into a marathon lunch with BonBon at Rats.
october 17th - return on investment
After many weeks of crossing and fingers, the lawn thatching and seeding has finally paid off. We had our grass cut for the first time in weeks now that all of our sprouts have materialized. Lookin’ purdy.
october 16th - daddy daughter lunch
GemGem hd a follow up doctor appointment today so she got to break out of school early for lunch with Daddy. First time we sat next to the pizza counter at Nomad...her amazement at pizza making limited conversation, but ice cream got her attention.
october 15th - stop, drop, and roll
Good day at Bright Horizons reading books and learning about fire safety. Gemma got to meet a firefighter and “his pup”...which Gemma says was just a guys dressed like a dog.
october 14th - 🍎 pickin’ 🍏
Lucy slept in a bit this morning...thanks be to god. After we collected our thoughts we headed down to the farm for some fun with all the Burger cousins. Hay rides, some lunch, cider donuts, and apple picking. We also ran into Uncle Frank’s childhood best friend. It was kind of crazy when he made us take a picture because it was the first time he has seen all four of us in the same place at the same time in close to 20 years.
october 13th - making 70 look goo-ood
No soccer today because of some rough weather so the whole family got to attend Gemma’s gymnastics. She did an amazing job and Daddy’s favorite is the forward roll. Luckily, the weather cleared up ahead of Grandpa’s birthday party. Awesome adult night out on Fairway Drive celebrating, toasting, eating, and plenty of drinking. At one point we looked around and wondered where everyone went...apparently that happens if you are still drinking around a fire at 1:30 am. Good times...no on got flagged. Grandmom Burger watched the kiddos and painted pumpkins...and she was a good sport when our Uber dropped us off at home at 2am.
