She has to be the happiest baby in the world. All she does is smile and kick her little legs. Nothing ever really gets her down...with exception of a giant hard poop.
july 18th - big girl
Lucy is a bouncing machine. She can now reach the platform under her seat and she gets fired up.
july 16th - little green thumbs
We may officially be able to claim our property as active farmland on next year’s taxes. We are growing zucchini out there that borders on genetically modified. The kids got to go out with Mommy and harvest some goodies. Daddy got to cook it. Lucy was so fired up, she had a poop and passed out while sitting up.
july 15th - vive la france
Grandpa got Alex a French national team jersey while in Paris and it peaked his interest in today’s final. He has been loving watching the world cup these last couple weeks, but struggling a bit on who we should root for...damn US didn’t even qualify. Today he was totally into it and very pleased with the 4-2 result in favor of the French team.
Lucy gave us the gift of getting to see what blueberries look like when vomited. I wish I invented Resolve.
july 14th - daddy...look at my pretty eyes
Swim class and sweetberry are the new saturday morning tradition and Lucy is killing it. Spent the afternoon chilling out and went down to Philly for dinner. Gemma was super excited to get dolled up in her new dress that Beeps and Grandpa bought her in Europe. She was so proud. Even got to put on some of Mommy’s makeup. Lots of fun being back in Philly. The buzz on the street is that the fried chicken at Hungry Pigeon is fantastic, so we reserved our bird ahead of time. It did not disappoint. Gemma’s exact words were “oh my god I love this skin...this skin is amazing...anybody that doesn’t want their skin, give it to me fast...I am going to eat this whole chicken.” Raspberry ice cream, banana cream pie, and a piece of coconut cake bigger than Lucy for dessert? Um, yep.
july 13th - checkup day
We got the most out of our insurance today. Mommy had Lucy at the doctor in the morning and Daddy had Gemma there in the afternoon. Lucy had her six month checkup and knocked it out of the park. Poor baby got three shots but she took them like a champ. Gemma was Daddy’s intern today and went to an appointment at the bank. She sat very patiently and impressed the staff.
“My name is Gemma, what is your name?”
“I am doing well thank you, how are you?”
“Goodbye, it was nice to meet you.”
Lucy’s stats:
14 pounds, 12 ounces
26 inches tall
We spent the afternoon/evening at Schaefers’ house swimming and playing with all of our friends. Alex and Gemma loved the pool and did not stop swimmimg.
july 12th - special guest
Miss Sampson came over to our house for dinner tonight. Alex was very excited. He and Gemma were little chatterboxes. Gemma even put on a dance show for us out on the patio.
july 11th - hump day
Alex is feeling a bit under the weather, but well enough to hang out with Lucy and make her smile. He has a bit of a swimmers’ ear thing going on so he stayed home from camp. Mommy said watching Alex get his lunch all set up today was amazing. Took everything out and got it set up before he ate. Hilarious.
july 10th - like peas and carrots
Alex is Lucy’s best friend. The two of them just play and hang out together...he is so proud. She is pretty damn cute. Had dinner at Nomad tonight and Gemma was the entertainment.
july 9th - lucy baby
This one is getting big so fast. She now has her own routine and friends outside the household. Slightly biased but eyes are definitely drawn to the cutest kid on the bottom right. Lucy’s absolute favorite toy right now is a green lego piece. Not sure why but she will play with it all day. We have now begun bringing it with us everywhere we go.
july 8th - gender segregation
After two big nights out, the kids slept in...a little. The weather today was absolutely amazing and everyone had slightly different interpretations of how to take advantage. Daddy and Alex cruised over to New Hope for lunch, a walk around town, ice cream, and a stop in a toy store or two. Had to have a basketball, which Lucy is loving as much as him. Alex loved all the motorcycles in town and being so close to the water. We hung out on the bridge for a while watching the boats pass.
Our girls stayed local and went for a hike/picnic at Mountain Lake. They almost ran into a baby deer...literally, and Gemma was a little startled. Lucy loved getting the breeze and sunshine on her toes.
july 7th - water sports and birthday cake
Swim class this morning and the water was nippy. After class we tried the other fruit place on Nassau. Delicious. Alex walked us around town and told us all about his scavenger hunt at camp last week. He was very proud he could remember all the locations. Ended at Scudder Plaza and they already had their bathing suits on...why not jump in the fountain?
We celebrated Hailey’s first birthday in Newtown tonight. Kids had fun playing and catching fireflies. Daddy was an amazing firefly hunter.
july 6th - best friday ever
Our little boy is growing up. He had a field trip today to a bowling alley to roll some games, play laser tag, and go to the arcade. He had his own money to manage. Very fiscally responsible.
We had an impromptu dinner at the grill tonight. Swung by and landed a great table outside. The weather was amazing, the kids were amazing, and the booze was cold. Tons of laughter and about a dozen rounds of 50m dash races across Hinds Plaza.
july 5th - recovery day
The fourth of july being mid-week is pretty sucky. Everyone is back to work and back to school after a really fun extended weekend. Lucy is not yet prepared. We only have to make it through a couple days before we get some more relaxation time.
july 4th - happy birthday america
Who knew Gemma was such a patriot. She was screaming happy birthday america all morning while helping us get organized for some friends coming to our house. Lots of fun celebrating the 4th with friends...even though it was 98°.
july 3rd - a little elbow grease
Off to Terhune Orchards for some blueberry picking. What started as a fun way to get the kids out of the house this morning, ended with a lesson in what it is like to be a migrant worker. God bless the Dreamers. It was so hot that we were all sweating out of every pore of our bodies. We even put Lucy in the cool down station and finished up with some apple cider slushies. Made it home in time to put the kids to work again. The whole family pitched in to clean our garage door. GemGem did the top and Alex was going to do the windows...until lightning started. Probably best not to let the six year old up on an aluminum ladder. We got a crazy storm...and since there was no work left to do, the kids passed out cold before dinner. Alex did wake up in time to eat his entire crab cake that he picked out at Whole Foods.
july 2nd - daddy beach day
Daddy is off from work for a couple days so Alex and Gemma got to play hooky and hit the beach. We had such an awesome day. The kids could have stayed until midnight if Daddy let them. We listened to the Allman Brothers (Gemma’s favorite) with the windows down. We got a great spot near the water, collected shells, swam in the ocean, and had a nice lunch right on ocean ave. The tables were really high so Alex got a high chair. Daddy kept pretending to take pictures of him in it to send to his friends. He was so embarrassed. They both lost their battles with their ice cream cones, but most of it went in their mouths. Winning. Of course, they both passed out for the ride home but it was an amazing day filled with smiles.
