Alex and Gemma had a fun day spent with Beeps today, while Mommy and Daddy drove up to Watsontown for Nana Hile's memorial service. It was a beautiful day and a very peaceful location for all of us to gather and remember Nana. Only in Watsontown....
october 21st - screaming hill
Gemma's a bit unorthodox in her stretching routine but gets the job done. Two minutes and she is limber and ready to rock. We went to Screaming Hill Brewery today and it was awesome. Nine beers on tap for adults and tons of cool stuff for the kids to do.
october 20th - friday!!!
Daddy left work early today and Gemma got to be daddy's lunch date. We ate at Witherspoon Grill, where Gemma put on a one-woman puppet show. Then we got some ice cream at Halo Pub. Mommy was jealous.
We went to the Princeton homecoming game this evening under the lights. Alex was really excited to see live football. They played Daddy's high school so we had to sit in the middle of the bleachers.
october 19th - proper tools
Alex made apple sauce at school today and he was mesmerized by the apple peeler they used. He said "mommy should really get one of those peelers." The apple sauce was "a little darker, but still pretty delicious."
october 18th - he's BACK
After a week of coughing, crazy fevers, 24 hours of vomiting, a mild ear infection, a urine sample, a mix of every medication on the shelf, and a bout with diarrhea - Big Al is back in action. He had a bowl of oatmeal this morning and he was off. A rough week and some serious one on one time with him at all hours of the night. Something about seeing a 40 pound 5 year old dry heaving over the toilet at 3am in his spiderman underwear that makes your heart break. Crossing our fingers for a healthy winter...for all our sake.
october 17th - milking it
Gemma had a booboo on her foot which could barely be seen by the naked eye, however, required a band aid and elevation.
october 16th - hopeful planting
Mommy went out and planted Nonna's tulip bulbs that we dug up from the backyard last year. We shall see whether or not they make a strong comeback. Sprinkle a little tobacco from some commanders. Good as new.
october 15th - hostess gemma
Gemma has been absolutely hilarious over the last couple days and is being such a good girl. She had a fried egg sandwich for breakfast and set up a party for the whole family. We had dessert at her party (before dinner), which was monkey bread that she made with mommy. Alex is REALLY sick but he still came out and helped daddy build a rack for our firewood. Poor buddy.
october 14th - finally...says gemma
Daddy went to Philly last night so HAD to stop at Federal Donuts to bring back some special treats. Gemma has been asking to paint for the entire week, so while the kids napped, mommy set up a craft center in the garage. She had the biggest smile the entire time.
october 13th - friday field trip
Alex's class went to the Peinceton Fire Department across the street from his school for a tour. He was really excited to go and told us all about the inside. He was especially impressed with the loft style second floor where the firefighters sleep. "It's like this half second floor that's high up in the air...and they had four trucks...big ones."
october 12th - gem on the farm
Gemma had a field trip to the farm today and she had to wear her boots. It was pretty rough weather. Her favorite part was seeing the doggies. Daddy asked if she got to pet them and she said, "no we weren't allowed to so they didn't eat our hands off." Safety first. Nightmares second.
october 11th - gemma's salon
Gemma has been really into doing mommy's hair before she leaves for school in the morning. Her blow dryer could use more power, but she does a great job. Alex has been doing some farming at school and loves to tell us about their garden..."it has a turtle."
october 10th - guilty sugar
Alex and Gemma got their annual flu shots today after school. It was as if we were sawing off their arms with a spoon. Needless to say, Gemma placed her own dessert order at Nomad..."the big dipper, please." She had nutella in her ear.
october 9th - daddy takes requests
Alex had no school today and he has been making requests to go to Chuck E Cheese. Not sure how he even learned what Chuck E Cheese is but Daddy took off and we went. Gemma got to partake in afternoon ice cream at her request "the spoon place." Also know as The Bent Spoon. Well informed children.
october 8th - this one gemma
Brunch with Gramps and Grandmum at Cargot followed by a stroll through the university. Alex found every muddy puddle on campus for Gemma to jump into...she was stripped down before getting in the car to come home.
october 7th - diplomacy
Alex had a playdate with his buddy Caleb today and they had a great time at Marquand Park. Gemma got to go with mommy to get her nails done.."pink and sparkly." Our freshly seeded lawn has been requiring lots of effort and Alex is always happy to pitch in.
Gramps and Grandmum came down for dinner tonight at our house. Gemma even convinced Mommy to make S'mores at the fire. When mommy first said no, Gemma said.."what are we living in Nazi germany?" She may have had help.
october 6th - honey
Alex's class was introduced to their class pet today. Each kid gets to take care of Honey at some point. Really cool idea but makes you wonder what happened to the last "live" pet that they decided to reengineer the "class pet" program.
october 5th - alex's grandpal
Princess Poppy (aka Gemma) was very busy at work today and "had phone calls not stop with all these random people." Alex met his Grandpal at school today, who comes to read him books once a month. Win-win for some folks in town looking to impart wisdom on kindergartners.
october 4th - sunshower
Alex is loving school and got to wear all kinds of cool stuff for theme week...favorite hat, sports jersey, etc. Daddy has been watering our landscaping nonstop and the kids got to have a little extra fun.
october 3rd - big boy
Alex is looking so big in his new school pants and his undershirt. He was very proud that he was able to bring home the star that he made in after school. Grandmom Burger cam over tonight and we went out for dinner at Metro North.
october 1st - prepped
Alex and Gemma have received their costumes and have tried them on...a dozen times. Daddy and Alex went into town for a bike ride, lunch, and a musice festival in Hinds Plaza. A very freaky interpretive dancer took a liking to Alex. He was frightened.
september 30th - pumpkins out the ying yang
We made it to the farm at Terhune's today with some special guests...Jackie and Emily. Went for a tractor ride, picked some pumpkins, and had some lunch. Alex and Gemma got some great time in on the farm bikes. Gemma was making some pretty awesome mean faces to pedal uphill.
This evening, we went to Charlotte and Grayson's house for pumpkin painting and more fall festivities. We took a hike to a really cool farm store to get the goods...mommy shopped, of course. Gemma and Charlotte were BFFs. Really. Cute.
september 29th - weekend begins
Good times at Logan and Lucas' house tonight for a bonfire and playtime with tons of kids. Mommy got a glimpse of what three more months of growth may look like while trying on clothes. Yikes!!
