Daddy is heading off to Amsterdam tonight so we had a no school daddy day. The kids wanted to go to community park to play. We spent some time in Palmer's Square and Jazams! GemGem got some stuffed animals and Alex got a LEGO BATMAN WATCH. He is very proud of it and looks like such a big boy wearing it...he's already talking about career options and a 401k.
july 26th - the final pour
Last slab of cement around our firepit is being poured today. Alex was excited to see the truck one last time. Hopefully we are done with cement trucks for a while. The planting has resumed and the fence is just about complete. Life will hopefully be normal again soon.
july 24th - let the madness begin
We added a second team of workers to our exterior project to install a fence. Lots of chaos, lots of ripping out, and planting is beginning...big changes at 277 Walnut Lane.
july 23rd - next birthday
Adult night out to celebrate Uncle Frank being old. Alex and Gemma had a sleepover night at Beeps and Grandpa's house. Movie and popcorn...although Alex said "the popcorn was rotten so we got to eat two cookies."
july 22nd - happy bday uncle todd
We celebrated the old man's birthday in newtown tonight. Mommy and Daddy cooked dinner and brought it to give the newly exhausted parents a break. The kids got to meet the new addition to the Dreby family. Alex and Gemma have been talking about "Hailey Skye" all week.
july 21st - man-day
Daddy and Alex had a Coors Original Guys Afternoon Out today for lunch. Gemma was being a jerkface this morning so we left her at school and went for a peaceful lunch. Alex said, "I would like a good cheeseburger today so I think we should go to Witherspoon Grill." :)
We had a lot of fun, talked about the rest of our summer plans, and him starting school. Daddy told him he only has 1.5 months left before kindergarten. He said, "oh man, we need to start working on wiping my own butt."
july 20th - outdoor creations
Our exterior project is moving along. We now have two of the three concrete pours finished and waiting for the last pour to happen in a couple days. Things are looking great and it is cool to see our custom design take shape. Can't wait to sit out there and have a drink...mommy will have to wait a bit longer for that:(
july 19th - mastering street slang
Alex got changed after water play at school today and put on some of his last year's reserve shorts. Mommy was a little surprised to see him wearing some booty shorts when she picked him up from school. Alex said,"yeah, mommy I thought these were a little 'young' on me when I put them on."
july 17th - a case of the mondays
Alex and Gemma are excited to be home but not so excited to get back into the daily routine of school. Daddy was off today so they got broken out at lunchtime for fun with daddy. We went to A&B for lunch and then hit 'the bent spoon' for some gelato.
july 16th - princeton bound
Back on the road and heading southbound. We recharged with a quick breakfast at our hotel with Gramps and Grandmum. Alex gave his paw patroller on last look before giving it to Ben. We stopped at a great lunch place called the 'Iron Gate Cafe' in Albany on our way back. Home by dinner time...long day on the road.
july 15th - wedding time
Finally, a day with a little sunshine. We spent the morning walking through a local farmers' market near our hotel and letting the kids play at a park. There was a Great Adventure-sized slide which almost caused a trip to the ER. We had an awesome breakfast at a hole-in-the-wall diner, Gemma pooped outside...again, and we managed to find Aunt Karen for lunch.
Back to Huntington for the wedding, which was in a really beautiful spot in front of a pond. Daddy and Uncle Mike randomly coordinated outfits so we looked like groomsmen and/or secret lovers. Ceremony was short and sweet...and hot. Uncle Mike had a great view from the shaded cheap seats to keep William occupied. Cousin Ben ripped a huge fart just before the wedding party walked the aisle. Evey one silent...hilarious!!! Kids at a wedding...unexpected magic.
Gemma's favorite song was the first after the bride and groom dance so she was out cuttin' up the floor early. When it was time to take the early bus home Gemma said, "but we didn't even eat cake yet!!" She threw down a piece very quickly and then passed out on Aunt Karen on the bus ride home.
july 14th - burlington, vt
Great breakfast at our hotel before getting on the road to Vermont. Gemma ate her bodyweight...loves breakfast. She had pancakes, an egg, sausage, bacon, and a fruit bowl. Amazing. Probably the reason we had to stop on the side of the road for a dump.
We arrived at the hotel at the same time as Ben and William, so Alex and Gemma were pumped to play with the Paw Patroller they brought to give to Ben. Our room wasn't ready so we squatted for naptime.
Wedding related bbq at the venue in Huntington was pretty good. Lots of kids that Uncle Mike kept occupied by acting as a human basketball hoop. Alex and Daddy had a better time on the swing than anyone else.
july 13th - lakes are cold
It is absolutely frigid in Lake George today but the rain stopped and we risked the walk for pancakes. Mommy, Alex, and Gemma are now proud owners of Lake George sweatshirts since we packed for a summer trip and hypothermia was setting into the bones.
Alex talked all night about going to the arcade and it was 'finally' open after breakfast...at 9am. Played loads of games and spent rent money in a machine to get Alex a batman souvenir...mostly due to Mommy and Daddy's refusal to give up. Gemma took 20 minutes to choose her prize using her tickets that she won in ski ball.
Went for a lake cruise on the 'Minne Ha Ha' which the kids loved. Mostly because they liked saying 'Minne Ha Ha.' The rain showed up again in the afternoon so we took a dip in the indoor pool at the hotel, which Alex says is the highlight of his trip. We had dinner at the Beach Club and the kids ordered room service for dessert, so they could eat on our balcony while waiting for fireworks. It was the first show of the year and we got to watch them go off right in front of us. Lucky ducks.
july 12th - next stop...ny state
The concrete crew showed up bright and early this morning to pour the first level of our patio. Alex was so excited he refused to leave the counter for breakfast. Gemma...not so much...she couldn't care less.
We picked up the kids mid-day from school so we could get on the road for our long haul to Lake George. Relatively uneventful four hour trip and we made it into town. As we were pulling in, Alex saw all the things out the window.."oh my god we are going to be able to do so many activities." We had a nice dinner at the Adirondak Brewery and hit the rides. The weather is uncooperative, but we had a great night walking around Lake George Village.
july 11th - creative juices
Alex had a big day today at school. He loves drawing, painting, coloring....he also loves the new game he plays with girls. They all try to hug him and chase hime around the playground. Ella and Rinna are always on the hunt for huggies.
july 10th - the good garlic nuts
Mommy was in NYC today and Daddy could not be bothered to cook dinner. Gemma requested that we go to "the place with the really, really good garlic nuts." She has been a very good girl this week so her request was granted. She ordered her garlic knots and even said, "thank you Sarah" to the waitress.
july 9th - a day of rest
Relaxing Sunday at the pool and a picnic lunch. Gemma finally crashed and was not picky about the location of said crash. She loves hiding under furniture...especially her bed, where she sometimes naps.
july 8th - welcome to earth hailey
The Dreby's added another baby to their family yesterday, Hailey Skye, so we took advantage of an opportunity to go down to Philly and visit. Alex and Gemma requested to go to Seger Park to play. Mommy requested lunch at Santucci's for...Pizza...again. They were serving brunch so the kids opted for pancakes. Mommy and Daddy couldn't pass up ordering some square pie with the works. It was nice being back in the old neighborhood on a beautiful day.
july 7th - pizza fix
As if we don't eat enough pizza, we went out tonight with friends for a special treat...DeLorenzo's. Had a swim and happy hour at the Schaefer's before we went over to wait our turn in line. The kids played for an hour outside while we waited and they were all well-behaved...praise jesus. We had a couple wild cards with us, so things could have gotten nuts really quickly.
Halo Pub for ice cream, were Gemma wasn't shy about finding a seat next to strangers to be comfortable while she enjoyed her treat.
july 6th - progress
Things are moving on the patio. Alex and Gemma hold a private concert to celebrate.
july 5th - curb appeal
The kids are back to school and excited for the first day of their summer field trips to the YMCA for swimming lessons. Both little fishies did great and Gemma was especially at home in the water. Mommy and Daddy were also excited today for the ground breaking of our patio in the backyard. The guys showed up and went to town. If this crew built our house, we would have been Princetonians a LOT sooner. Alex came home and couldn't help himself from climbing up on the backhoe. In his glory!
july 4th - 'merica
First independence day celebrating how embarrassing it is to be american. We somewhat avoided patriotic festivities and just laid low at the pool all morning with a picnic lunch. Mommy did make her traditional birthday red, white, and blue pankcakes for breakfast. "Happy Birthday Captain America," says GemGem.
july 3rd - despicable day
A waste monday before 4th of July holiday so the kids got to extend their "no school" streak for another day. We went for a walk to enjoy the weather this morning, hit the bank, and got some coffee (and gummy worms) at Bon Appetit. Gemma made it a little further today before "umm daddy, can you carr-a me."
Daddy took Alex and Gemma to the movies to see 'Despicable Me 3' which was really fun. Gemma thought she was lost for a second and got really upset...until daddy told her he would never leave her AND gave her a popcorn that was bigger than her whole body. She wore her princess dress to the theater. Amazing.
july 2nd - happy birthday drew
We celebrated drew's birthday with a day in Ocean City. It was a beautiful ride down through the backroads and seeing first hand why Jersey is the garden state. Lots of farms, lots of horses, and the closest we came to finishing Alex's road trip bingo game.
We started on the beach where it was ridiculously hot. It was like torture because the water had to be less than 60°. The kids were wading in it and playing but Daddy got mild hypothermia of the ankles. We had a quick lunch, paid for a shower, and then went to the party at Castaway Cove.
Alex and Gemma loved going on all the rides. Alex was a little more daring (and tall enough) on the bigger rides. He and Daddy even went on the swings which were really high and fast. We screamed like girls the whole time.
Awesome day!
july 1st - original tenants
Aunt Vicky is in town this week and we hosted the original 277 Walnut Lane gang for dinner and old stories. Aunt Vicky brought the kids some legos and Alex put his jet together all by hinself in 15 minutes. Very impressive. Gemma and Uncle Mike's building was interrupted by snacks.
june 30th - bat mobile complete
After a week of working each night on Alex's super lego bat mobile, he put in the last piece today. He is very proud and ver excited that it is finished. We spent some time at the pool today because daddy let the kids stay home from school to kick off the holiday weekend.
june 29th - summer music series
Mommy had wine night tonight in Yardley with the girls so Daddy took the kids to the shopping center for the first week of outdoor music in the square. Gemma was really into it...helps we had lots of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
