march 28th - 'til the last drop
Tuesday is usually nomad night and Gemma gets her money's worth every time. No ice cream left behind.
march 27th - rainy days
Gemma must bring her "barella" for rainy days...even if the walk from the car to school is 10 feet, the accessory must come out.
march 26th - strike a pose
Mommy bought Gemma a ton of new clothes and she had to try everything on to model for Daddy and Alex. Pretty priceless.
march 25th - in your face kind of fun
We celebrated Evan Castañeda's third birthday today at the Funplex in South Jersey. Definitely not the type of place one should visit only one day post an epic hangover. Kids were literally sprinting past you at 2 per second. We had a VIP bowling room, which kept our children contained for a bit while the adults drank beer to de-sensitize to the sheer chaos around us. Eventually, we made it out into general population for video games and other activities. Lots of fun. Lots of aspirin required. Alex was in his glory. He is still talking about the video games.
march 24th - rebound
Daddy was making hangover cures all day. Mommy didn't even bother to sit up to eat her grilled cheese. BMS and Accenture stock took a slight dip on the news.
march 23rd - what the hell happened
The kids got to spend time with Grandmom Burger tonight while Mommy and Daddy went out for drinks for Uncle Gary's birthday. We were aiming for a quiet night out and the wheels came off rather quickly. Lack of memories. Big time hangovers all around. Nothing but blurry cell phone pictures to prove it even happened...along with several videos of Mommy dancing solo to 90's hip hop records being spun by DJ Dan.
march 21st - learning by doing
Daddy picked the kids up and took them for a special playtime at Bounce U. They had a great time running around. Gemma was amazing climbing up a really big wall to get to the slide. The girl working there showed her one time how to use the stirrups on the wall and that was all she needed. Instant professional.
There was a rather large child flopping around with no control of his immense body. Gemma came out at one point and said, "ummm daddy...do you see that kid in the blue shirt over there...he's killing me." She said exactly what Daddy was thinking :)
We stopped by Beeps and Grandpa's on the way past their house and convinced them to come to dinner. Alex ordered his own meal from the waitress. "I would like ketchup, french fries, and grilled cheese please."
march 20th - mommy leaves us
Mommy had to go away again. This time to Washington DC...where Donald Trump lives, according to Gemma. Lots of Facetime and ordering out. This time we let Gemma choose dinner and she placed the order...sort of...
march 19th - sunday funday
Uncle Gary and Aunt Charita hosted the Burger clan for brunch at their house today. Lots of cousin time, food, and champagne. Gemma even sat down for a discussion with her uncles.
march 18th - big day
Picked up some new baseball gear for Alex, lunch at Wegmans (very suburban), and a visit from the Dreby's. The kids had a great day and an even better night hosting their buddies at our house. They were both up until 11pm going strong.
march 17th - everyone's 🍀
Alex and Gemma were very excited to dress up for saint patty's day this morning. Grandmom burger brought them some fun accessories this week and they loved wearing them to school. Alex was very proud of his green tie and casually showed it off to all of his friends.
march 15th - mommy's back
The plows came through last night and left an unexpected mountain of icy snow at the end of our driveway. Grandmom came over to watch the kids so Daddy could go dig us out for the second time. Mostly due to the fact that the kids were pumped to go to swimming lessons. They did a great job. Gemma is like a little fish. Mommy made it home for dinner!
march 14th - snow day
We woke up to 6 inches of snow this morning and the world was cancelled. We spent the day watching movies and drinking coffee by the fire. Gemma had a variety of outfits that she chose herself.
march 13th - alex ❤️'s science
A big day for science and athletics at school. Alex got to play hockey and football. He said he won all the sports at school and got a trophy:)
march 12th - the week of daddy begins
A lazy sunday morning...whole day actually. Spent the morning hanging out with Mommy before she heads out to California for most of the week. The kids were sad to see her go, but Gemma said "it's ok Alex, Mommy will be back for dinner."
Alex said, "no she is not. She is going to be gone for three days.
Gemma said, "WHAT?!?!?!?!?"
march 11th - weekend fun
Gemma had her last ballet class today and she was spectacular. She has really enjoyed the class each week and it shows in how much she loves to dance around the house now. Alex and Daddy used the guy time to go see the new Lego Batman movie at the theater. We went to the Princeton AMC and it was awesome. Much different than Daddy remembers when he was a kid. There were only about 25 seats in the theater and they were all electrically controlled lazy boy recliners. Fantastic.
march 10th - ugh snow...again
Mommy in NYC, kids off to school, and daddy had the house to himself to watch the snow fall and drink coffee by the fireplace. Gemma has been wearing the revolutionary war era daddy got at his work dinner everywhere...including to brush her teeth. She thinks it's a pirate hat:).
march 9th - adult play
Daddy got to play with legos at work today as part of a team building exercise. Killed it. At the end, we were supposed to build a figure to bring back to our office to remind us of the work. Everyone built sudious looking adults for their desks. Daddy built a black robot ninja with a samurai sword for Alex.
march 8th - swim lessons
The kids started swim lessons this evening at the Princeton YMCA. They were really excited and they did an AMAZING job. They both loved getting in the water and took instructions very well. Once they were allowed to free swim they took off. Daddy had a conference all week so chef Mommy made pancakes for dinner. Best day ever.
march 7th - big helper
Apparently we had some high winds while we were away because our yard looks like a tree threw up. Alex and Gemma did a great job collecting all of our falling branches this afternoon and stacking them in piles. Alex said he "made two piles...one on the big street and one on the turning street."
march 6th - back to reality
Alex and Gemma back to school today and Mommy and Daddy back working for the man. Mommy had to go to NYC this morning so it was an early day for all. Work is for the birds. We NEED a vacation...already.
march 5th - luke finds jesus
Luke was baptized today and we were back in time to spend the day with the whole Burger clan. The kids got all dressed up for church and were very well-behaved. Gemma even had to accessorize her outfit.
march 4th - farewell punta cana
We had a great week and it's time to head back to 30 degree weather to finish out winter. Alex and Gemma did great on our travel day with a minor potty mishap. Back in our car and home in Princeton on time to pick up our pizza at Conte's. Kids in bed by 7:45. Parents in bed by 8:30.
march 3rd - last day
One last day of relaxation before heading home to winter weather. Gemma and Alex have made a new friend from Scotland. Gemma is already asking if her "new friend Poppy can come to our house."
march 2nd - feeding time
It is nice to be building our days around mealtimes and not have anything else on the schedule. Alex and Gemma are eating ice cream three times a day. However, we miss vegetables.
march 1st - combing the beach
Alex and Mommy were on the early shift of securing chairs at the pool and did a little treasure hunting on the beach. Alex found a great rock that may put us over the weight limit for our luggage on the way home.
february 27th - and...we're off
A highly needed trip to see some sunshine and switch off. Alex and Gemma have been so excited this month as we did our vacation countdown each morning. We will see what kind of adventure Punta Cana brings, but it is already worth it. Just hearing Gemma say Punta Cana and the dance she did through the airport when she heard the Caribbean band playing was money well spent. Early morning but being on the beach for lunch was great.
february 26th - the art of distraction
Since this week we had Gemma with strep throat, Alex with an ear infection, mommy with an ear infection, grandmom jordy passing away, full time jobs to sporadically attend to, an international cooking competition, a funeral to attend, and about a two hour window to ourselves...daddy took the kids to PJ's for pancakes while mommy threw things in a suitcase so we have clothes to wear in Punta Cana. Super Mom. Gemma is ready to tap out.
february 25th - the tasting menu
We had to divide and conquer this morning to get Alex a haircut at MIKE's and get Gemma to ballet before getting on the road out of town. Also had to devise and create our entry in the 'Millersville Winter Dinner Where It's OK to Cheat and Not Make Your Own Entree Competition.'
