february 25th - mexican fiesta night
Alex and Gemma helped daddy prepare tonights dinner. They love organizing chopped vegetables and stealing bites of pineapple.
february 24th - dr gemgem
Gemma got a belated birthday present today, which was a huge hit. It was a play doctor set and she has been taking blood pressure, listening to heartbeats, and giving out shots left and right. She and Alex are having tons of fun, although, Gemma always wants to give people shots in the mouth. She may be a dentist...aiming a little lower on the career scale.
Happy Birthday CJ!!
february 22nd - alex accused of attempted murder
Alex went to his 100th day of school today and turned in his project. He personally picked out 100 pieces of popcorn as part of his homework. Everything went swimmingly until he brought it to school and some dork in his class started crying hysterically because he is allergic to popcorn. Seriously? What is happening to this country?
february 21st - spring in february
We spent the night at Beeps and Grandpa's last night so we could check out the house progress in the morning. The kids insisted that they had to have donuts for the job site, so we went to DD. Gemma got a pink one...although she wanted purple. Alex got sprinkles...surprise, surprise. We got outside to enjoy the weather once we got back to Philly.
february 20th - saying farewell to bob
We went to our neighbor, Bob's memorial service this morning at Old Pine Church. The kids were really good and both brought flowers for Bob. They don't quite know what has happened but they know Bob has gone someplace warm, because Bob loves warm weather. We had a nice neighborly lunch with Chip, Mickey, and Sandi after the service.
february 19th - clean up time
The excavation crew was up and at it early this morning to haul away all of the scrap from the house. We already had a neighbor complaining about dust from the work, and had a visit from the town health inspector...was questioning that we had the proper permits. Daddy was there when he showed up and it was a humorous conversation, given the amount of time and money that has already gone into getting us to this point. A-hole.
Mommy and the kids got some pizza for dinner and GemGem graduated to holding her pizza like a big girl. Miss Independent. Alex was so tired from being out at the job site early that he passed out on Mommy after dinner.
february 18th - demo day...at long last
After almost a year of waiting, spending money, and listening to ridiculous rules/regulations, our house has finally been taken down. We got a call from our contractor saying that there was a cancellation and the house was coming down...so we dropped everything to watch it happen.
Alex got out his construction outfit and insisted we bring his bulldozer. After standing for 60 years, the whole thing was down in a little less than 3 hours. It was a very crazy thing to witness. Lots of emotion and excitement to officially kick off the process of "making" (literally) the home for our family to spend the next 20+ years.
february 17th - this is a bath
Mommy had late calls, so bathtime was extra fun with Daddy making decisions. We had bubbles overflowing the tub and lots of big smiles. Probably the second time in history we used the jacuzzi jets.
february 16th - goddamn dentist
Mommy has been working on both of the kids for two weeks leading up to their dentist appointments. Trying to use pure bribery to prevent crying. Both of them swore up and down they would not cry so they could get a PAW patrol toy. They went one at a time into the back...Gemma lasted 30 seconds...Alex lasted 37 seconds. Daddy stayed in the waiting room while they were back..it sounded like they were sawing off limbs back there...absolutely dreadful. It was good that no other kids were in the waiting room, because they would have been petrified.
february 15th - holiday getting smarter stuff
Daddy had off from work today in celebration of some of our founding fathers, so it was off to the franklin institute for some education. We had a blast. We made the obligatory visits to the airplanes, trains, and space center. Then, we went to see a movie on humpback whales in the IMAX. The kids were in awe and really enjoyed it...however, did not enjoy discussions about when daddy was little and 'the voyage of the mimi.'
After we felt smarter, we went for pizza at Stella. Needless to say, Gemma was happy about the gelato selection.
february 14th - lovey day
Lazy valentine's day started with a long wake up in bed. Alex has bowling fever now, so we broke out the Wii and brought the alley to our house. Only thing missing is the sweet stink of rented shoes and bottled beers. He did great and oicked ut up really quickly. Gemma was happy to just be a spectator...as long as she didn't have to use any energy.
february 13th - let's go bowling
We took the kids bowling with their buddy Drew. They had a blast running around and playing. Alex had the third highest score and he was very proud.
february 12th - sweet relief
Alex and Daddy had to go and get Friday night haircuts, which basically means daddy carrying him 10 blocks...in the snow. It was all worth it, though, because our valentine made us cupcakes while we were gone.
february 10th - on the mend
Emily has a bit of a booboo and had to get a cast on her leg at the orthopedist. We had to try and convince Alex to sign her cast. It is freezing in Philadelphia so puzzles galore...
february 9th - love notes
Alex and Gemma got their creative juices out and made some valentine's day cards for their favorite people.
february 8th - the bug moves south
Alex went back to school today and must have picked up a bug. He came home and said he was feeling sick and had a vomit bowl on his lap for a couple hours. We could tell he was better when he started using it as a helmet. Gemma threw up all over Mommy last night, so maybe she gave it to him...or she got it from sucking on her own feet.
february 7th - a day with beeps
We spent last night at Beeps and Grandpa's house, so the kids got some quality time hanging out at our vacation house all day on Sunday. They took over the living room, the kitchen, and...the furniture. Alex and Daddy built some towers. We were supposed to go to Jack's birthday party to watch the Super Bowl, but GemGem was super sick....and a handful.
february 6th - dottie's birthday
Great Grandmom Jordy turned 87 this week, so we went to a lunch in Jersey to celebrate. Cousin Ryleigh was there, so the kids were excited to play and run around. After lunch, we had a meeting with our architect and builder. All of the permits are in and we are officially "on the train" toward building our house. It won't be much longer that good old 277 will be standing.
february 5th - adult night
GemGem's hair is officially long enough to get into a braid. Thankfully, since it's starting to get a little unwieldy. Mommy and daddy went out to the Kimmel Center with Gramps and Grandmum tonight, so the kids had pizza night with Jackie and Emily.
february 4th - check yo'self
Gemma has a knife and a threatening face on...it is in everyone's best interest to stay on her good side.
february 2nd - the journey home
Traffic in the UK sucks. It took us a little over three hours to get to the airport this morning...the kids were less than enthused...especially Gemma who woke up full of giggles at 3am ready to start the day. The kids were very good on the flight, which was relatively empty. This allowed daddy to come back from business class for an insanely uncomfortable nap with GemGem. Alex felt the pain so gave out a free head massage.
february 1st - tea time
Another day, another trip to a "soft play" for the kids to burn some energy. This one was a bit bigger and had an indoor soccer field. Alex was really into playing soccer, so he and daddy spent a lot of time on the pitch. Gemma loved this red mail van and refused to get out of it.
We went to Stamford to feed the ducks and then a fancy place for afternoon tea. Gemma was the uncivilized American showing her belly at the table. Alex insisted he drink tea and they both loved all the fancy cakes we were served. Once the sugar kicked in, we promptly exited and eventually made it home for baths in preparation for our long journey home in the morning.
january 31st - group play
We took all the kids to an indoor "soft play" gym in Oakham this morning and they had a blast...especially Alex. He ran around like a madman and worked himself up to a good nap. After nap, we went back to Oakham for a nice "Sunday lunch" with Lizzie's parents. This evening, we hung out at Lizzie and Alex's...the kids had every one of Elsie's toys pulled out...fun. Gemma and Elsie became bath buddies.
january 30th - loving the uk
All settled at The Falcon Hotel in Uppingham and Gemma has made herself at home. She has taken to the English breakfast of cereals, pastries, and muffins. Elsie really likes daddy since they have much in common...like nose picking.
We went out for a delicious lunch at the Lake Isle, which is another hotel that we have stayed in the past. Alex says he remembers it, which you may think he did seeing as he was comfortable enough to push tables together and whip out his Mickey cards.
We had dinner with Lizzie and Alex tonight at our hotel. The kids went down in our room as they did the night before and all seemed well. When we came up at midnight, our card key wouldn't work and we could hear Gemma inside talking with the TV on...mommy was frantic and ran downstairs to get a new key. Daddy could hear Alex saying something so called him to the door and he opened up. As the door opens...Gemma is jumping on the bed...completely naked. Daddy asked Alex what they were doing up and told Alex he was supposed to keep an eye on Gemma. Alex's response..."I did, she is still in the room."
