august 31st - pre-school mixer
Alex got to meet his new teachers and all the kids in his school this morning at a meet-n-greet in three bears park. He was very shy but had fun playing at the park. He refuses to say his teacher's name...miss tabitha. He says "i don't understand her name, daddy."
august 30th - school supplies
The whole family took Alex out to shop for school supplies this morning. Gemma rode in the cool cart (daddy's).
august 29th - the vacation spirit lives
For one more day Alex kept the spirit of vacation...even if it was in a kid's play area at a Chick Fil'a on the side of route 13 in Smyrna, Delaware. Where the hell is Smyrna, Delaware? Well, i googled it and it is home of the last convicted murderer to be hanged in the United States. "Alex, let's not touch anything that doesn't belong to us!"
We made it back to Philly in time to put the kids down for a little nap and then went for a walk to re-stock our fridge. Not back in town for more than 2 hours and we got an unexpected dose of culture that we were missing down south....the Philly Naked Bike Ride passing right under our noses. We told Alex that if Gramps recovers, it will be his first race back from injury. He said "why are they all naked mommy...gross!"
august 28th - last day :(
The sun is back for our final beach day of the week. Alex and Gemma collected sea shells for hours today and loved every minute of it. We took the kids into town and got them all hopped up on ice cream and then unleashed them on the town of Duck. Alex and Ryleigh had a dance party to music being played by an old blues guitarist...then they all ran wind sprints up and down the boardwalk. Should be really easy to wake them up at 5am for the ride home. Alex keeps asking "why is vacation over daddy?"
august 27th - red flag day
The beach was an "operate at your own risk" situation, which is not ideal with 27 kids running around. We spent the morning in Duck on the boardwalk. Gemma tested the local donuts, Alex spotted some baby deer and bought a new car (a tour bus which he seems to like since he spooned with it at naptime). We had someone come in and make a seafood feast for us at our house tonight and the kids played with lobsters...Gemma dropped one on the floor.
august 26th - approved!!!
It's official. The Princeton zoning board finally heard our case and our site plan is on the up and up. We were not there to witness it, but Beeps and Grandpa were there communicating the blow by blow. Went smoothly but a couple of neighbors are now dead to us.
A bit of a dreary day in North Carolina but we made the best of it at the beach. Alex and Gemma are becoming part fish because they cannot get enough of the ocean. Alex just runs in by himself, but Gemma puts her hand out and screams "pool"...she has claimed the entire ocean as her own swimming pool. No one will tell her otherwise with her busted nose that makes her look tough as nails.
august 25th - gemma goes boom
Alex managed to find the one park with a jungle gym on a morning walk so he and Gemma got to break out of the wagon for some play time. Gemma made a b-line for the slide which was 1000 degrees...she cant win today. She already has a busted nose because Alex pushed her into the table:( It does not seem to be interfering with her smiling and having fun. Alex and daddy dug another hole. The beach near our street looks like they are testing missiles because Alex is permanently changing the topography.
august 24th - liquid supplies
Alex is getting a solid understanding of the priorities...beer. He drags our cooler up to the beach for us, while queen gemma just sits in the wagon letting us serve her...
august 23rd - dug me a hole
Day 2 and the kids are having a blast. Alex is a chatterbox and loving time with his cousins. GemGem is trying with all of her energy to avoid touching sand. Alex found a shovel in the garage as long as him and he spent the better part of the morning digging a hole. "I'm really strong daddy but sometimes i need to take a break."
august 22nd - duck or bust
Headed to the dirty south for a week at the beach and it was a pretty uneventful trip down. We made a stop in virginia beach to get the kids some waffles and get the sugar levels back up...in OBX by lunchtime. Daddy drove solo in the dark, at 3am since everyone, including mommy, was asleep by the time we hit 95.
august 21st - taking stock
We had to take a picture of alex's cars that we are bringing to the beach to make sure we come back with all of them. Mommy got us all packed up and we managed to fit 22 cubic feet of stuff into a 10 cubic feet trunk. Not one bit of spare room was wasted...we even utilized the glove compartment, console, and space under the front seats. Hopefully we don't have to go through a weigh station...also if you ever want to have a funny conversation with your kids, wake them up at 3am out of a dead sleep. Hilarious!
august 20th - obx preparations
Daddy and alex are in charge of getting supplies for our trip...probably not the right people to put on a serious assignment. We came home with toys and candy.
august 19th - gemma
Miss sassy pants decided she was ready to sit on the potty today. She sat and Jackie read her a few books...very funny and hopefully a sign of early independence in the crap department. While Mommy was cooking dinner she noticed Gemma was very quiet...and realized she was very busy strapping on Jackie's baby carrier so she could put her baby doll inside.
august 15th - ashlyn's first birthday
Kids were pumped to celebrate Ashlyn's birthday...as if they need more sugar this weekend. They had a blast playing in the backyard running through the sprinklers. We spent the night at Beeps and Grandpa's house, which Alex decided he could stay up until 10pm to help make a late night snack. "I am the best pizza maker ever."
august 14th - a night in the country
An evening in Newtown included a "pre-dinner" stop at Zebra Striped Whale for some ice cream and making S'mores by the fire. Alex and Kyle had a great time collecting sticks for the fire, roasting marshmallows, and playing hide & seek.
august 11th - dentist = hell on earth
GemGem was really into watching cartoons and the big yellow chair...until it started moving. Mommy took both kids to the dentist today. Luckily Jackie could go with her and keep one of them in the waiting room so they could go in separately. Not quite sure which one screamed louder, but Alex reached frequencies not previously achieved.
august 10th - friends
Alex and Gemma are now at the point where they are playing together. They have full on conversations...somehow Alex understands everything Gemma is saying even when we don't have a clue. Nothing better than watching them play together and have fun.
august 9th - city time
We went for a really long adventure today around the city...put the kids in the wagon and cruised the neighborhoods. Alex wanted to see "the boats" so we walked down by the river, had coffee in the courtyard of the Betsy Ross House, play in Independence Mall while Mommy shopped, and circled back onto Hutchinson Street. Fun day, sweaty, chafing.
august 8th - happy birthday drew
We had a nice lunch in Millersville with Gramps and Grandmum this morning at Frog's and had to head back to Collingwood to celebrate Drew's 3rd birthday. They had bubble machines and bounce houses, which basically equated to built in babysitters. Alex ran around in the bounce house for 4 hours straight. The only break was to get some cake...which the two of them were hovering around. Steph was trying to get pictures, but they didn't budge.
august 7th - millersville movie night
Books, long naps, VERY trusting farm stand proprietors, big smiles, and "minor" technical difficulties...Millersville.
august 6th - zoo day with daddy
The kids had a blast at the zoo today seeing all the animals...even though it was ridiculously hot. Gemma LOVED big cat falls almost as much as the Gorillas, and Alex's favorite was the ice cream (and the "bingos"...flamingos). He had a bit of a staring match with a puma while it walked overhead.
august 5th - giddy'up
Daddy took the kids to Franklin Square tonight for a special trip to ride the carousel. Gemma got to ride a giant cat by default because it was next to Alex's favorite...the Zebra.
august 4th - enjoying mommy's spot
Alex can't get enough of mommy's side of the bed. He sweats worse than mommy so he always leaves his mark wherever he goes...nasty.
august 2nd - gemma the diva
Mommy left today for a week away in NYC for work, so we took the kids to 30th Street for a send off. Alex was so excited and HAD to wear his conductor's hat. He was really upset he couldn't go down and see Mommy's train, but we did go stand on the sky bridge and watch it pull out.
august 1st - uncle frank is old
The kids were very excited to go to Uncle Frank's birthday party this afternoon so they could swim in the pool. Alex was a very big boy and swam all by himself in his new floater. Gemma was diving off the side of the pool to Daddy like a nut.
july 31st - lgbt-friendly dairy
Alex has been walking past a new ice cream shop on South Street every day and we promised him would we go there today. Wondering if the combination of his muscle shirt and the shop being called "Big Gay Ice Cream" is an indication of things to come.
july 29th - three finger clutch
Gemma has her very original two fingers in the mouth and one up her nostril. Hopefully she gets over it before she stretches out her nose holes.
july 27th - sickies
Both kids went to the doctor today and came home with antibiotics. Our house is loads of fun this week since both of them are feeling under the weather and cry when the wind blows. Gemma sass has been taken to the next level....off the a-hole chart.
